Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Ritlal Yadav, a close associate of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and a sitting MLA, surrendered before the Danapur Civil Court on Saturday, following serious allegations of extortion and criminal intimidation. His younger brother and three other co-accused also surrendered in the same case and were sent to Beur jail after arrest.
The case revolves around an FIR lodged by a builder, who accused Ritlal Yadav and his associates of demanding extortion money, issuing threats, and creating fake documents. The court proceedings were held in the courtroom of ACGM-5, where all accused, including Pinku Yadav, Chikku, and Shravan, were presented.
Ritlal Yadav's lawyer claimed that the allegations were false and politically motivated. “As soon as Ritlal came to know that the police were searching for him, he voluntarily chose to surrender. This isn’t a case of extortion, and we’ll file a bail plea soon,” the lawyer said.
The police had earlier conducted a series of raids at 11 different locations associated with Ritlal Yadav on April 11. The raids led to the recovery of ₹10.5 lakh in cash, blank cheques worth ₹77.5 lakh, 14 suspicious land-related documents, 17 cheque books, five stamps, six pen drives, and walkie-talkies.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional legal action as investigation continues. The nature of the seized items has raised serious concerns about possible links to wider land grab and financial fraud operations.
